"Three primary sources, read directly. The CMO Survey figures come from the Fall 2024 Topline and Firm and Industry Breakout PDFs, quoted from the tables themselves with their sample sizes. The market-size figures come from the IAB/PwC Internet Advertising Revenue Report for full-year 2024. The sole-proprietor figures come from IRS Statistics of Income Table 2 for tax year 2023.",
"The two IRS percentages are our own arithmetic on the published table, not figures the IRS states: advertising expenses divided by total business receipts, for the column named in each row. Both dollar lines are quoted so the division can be redone.",
"Every source here is a PDF or a spreadsheet, which our automated re-verification script cannot read, so all rows are marked as checked by hand. The Gartner figures that would normally sit alongside these are not in the table at all: Gartner's site returns HTTP 403 to every read we can perform, and a figure we cannot open is a figure we do not publish."
