Painting isn't one service — it's interior, exterior, several paint types, plus refinishing (lacquer coatings). You have to actually understand the differences to advise a homeowner correctly.
That nuance is the whole game in the marketing too: a page or ad that treats painting as a single generic service loses to one that speaks to the specific job — cabinet repaint, exterior repaint, refinishing. Painting also rides alongside remodeling, so the same customer is often a candidate for more than one offer.
It's a planned, medium-ticket purchase, which means Meta can work to create demand — but the creative and landing page have to match the exact type of painting the homeowner has in mind, or the lead quality falls apart.
The demand shape surprises most owners. Nationally the core painting phrases run about 93,400 searches a month, peaking in September at 125 against an average month and bottoming in June at 70 (Keyword Planner, August 2026) — summer is the slow half, so a campaign scaled to “summer is busy season” is scaled backwards. Cabinet refinishing also behaves like its own trade: “cabinet painting” alone carries about 40,500 searches a month, more than “house painters”, “interior painting services” and “exterior painting services” put together. The Charlotte DMA carries about 1,230 searches a month across these phrases — thin enough that ranking on a handful matters more than bidding on all of them.
Search rewards the trade more than owners expect, because a painting job is planned rather than urgent — the homeowner has weeks to read, compare and change their mind, and the company that answered their question during those weeks is the one that gets the estimate. A Charlotte painting company we built from zero shows the shape of it: organic clicks 38× and impressions 21× between January and July 2026, on a $0 link budget, with the first lead landing in late May, eight in June and ten in the first 27 days of July. Search is slow and then it is not, and the pages that did the work were the ones answering what a homeowner types before they are ready to buy.
