SEO works differently for HVAC.
HVAC search demand splits in two: emergency repair (“AC not cooling”, “furnace won’t start”) that converts in minutes, and planned replacement or maintenance that researches for weeks. The SEO has to rank for both intents and route each to a page that matches how urgent the homeowner is.
HVAC isn't one business, and the SEO shouldn't pretend it is. In one company's own model, service and repair ran about $750 a job at roughly a 50% margin, while installation ran about $11,000 at roughly 10% — margin and ticket moving in opposite directions, with installation still the most profitable line because a tenth of eleven thousand beats half of seven hundred and fifty. Rank the repair pages for urgency and the replacement pages for research, and measure them separately, or the cheap emergency traffic will bury the line that actually pays.
- Average ticket
- ~$750 on service at ~50% margin; ~$11,000 on installation at ~10% — different businesses, different maximums
- Seasonality
- Summer heat and cold winters, on top of a year-round service base
- Best channels
- Local Services Ads carries the volume (around two thirds of leads in an account we run); split commercial out from residential — it ran $55–71 per lead against $39, and a shared budget hides that
- What clients search
- "AC not working", "AC repair near me", "AC replacement cost", "furnace tune up"
